I'm a bear

Reincarnation Station

Almost 32% of people will be reincarnated as a higher form of life than you.

You're not perfect, but you've lead a better life than most. With a few changes now, your next life could be even better.

Maybe it would help if I believed in reincarnation...

Jay Tea has it right

"Islam is a peaceful, accepting, tolerant, loving religion, and we will kill anyone who says differently."

My wife is great

Phone rings. Some one asks for the wife by name (and mangles first and last names). I pass the phone commenting that people who can't pronounce our name aren't worth talking to (the phone wasn't covered).

Anyway the caller is asking my wife if she is planning on voting for Tammy Duckworth for Congress. Ms. Duckworth, for those who don't know, lost both legs when the Blackhawk she was piloting was shot down in Iraq. She was handpicked by Senator 'Dick' Durbin to run for Heny Hydes seat. No real political experience and the fact that she'll be Durbin's prop just bothers me. The fact that she is anti-gun and pro-abortion doesn't help.

So the wife listens to the speel. The caller asks "Are you planning on voting for Tammy this fall?"

The wife answers "I'm not sure I'm voting but if I do it will not be for any democrat"

Yea wife!

Why can't Google remember 9/11?

Google always seems to come up with some interesting logos based on special days. One would have thought that today would be one of those but no. It's just plain old Google.

Ask.com, on the other hand, put together something very tasteful.

Shame on you Google.

2996 is down

Looks like DC's site has exceeded his bandwidth limits. Many thanks to Raggedy for finding a cached copy.

If you haven't taken the time to read some of the posts - please do.

Always remember 9/11/2001.

Kathy Bantis

Kathy died on September 11th,2001 at the age of 44.

Kathy was born in Greece and emigrated with her family to the United States at age 11 to Chicago, Ill.

At Central High School Kathy was a good student. She was involved with the foreign language publication called "Little Alien" and the school's drama club.

After graduating High School Kathy attended Plymouth State College in New Hampshire where she majored in accounting. It was at Plymouth State where Kathy met her former husband, Peter Maguire. The couple married in 1979 and lived in Maguire's hometown of Hampton, NH. There, Bantis worked for the law firm of Sanders and McDermott until the couple divorced in 1986.

After the divorce Kathy began working for the New York insurance brokerage firm Johnson and Higgins. This position led her back to Chicago. At the time of her death Kathy worked for Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. Marsh and McLennan, a global professional services company, had recently purchased Johnson and Higgens and made Kathy the vice president of finance. Kathy was in the process of being transferred from Chicago to New York.

Marsh and McLennan occuipied approximately 361,000 square feet of office space on the 94th through 100th floors and a portion of the 93rd floor in Tower One. On the day of the attacks, Kathy was at a training seminar on the 99th floor of Tower One. She died along with 294 other Marsh and McLennan employees.

Kathy left an indelible mark on the professional world. In her personal life she chose to remember her roots in Greece by providing funds to help inprove the lives of the people who lived there.

To those who knew her she was an exceptional person - both at work and in life (from Legacy.com and mmc.com):

"My mentor"
"well manner,sweet and smart"
"a crown jewel in the Bantis family"
"understanding ... and a great person to work for and with"
"warming my heart with your true friendship"
"a true pleasure to be with, as a co-worker and friend."
"always fun to be around. She lightened up every life she touched"
"the compassion and determination"
"My life is emptier without Kathy"
"blessed by the memories of your sassy voice"

Rest in peace Kathy. While there is no doubt that you are missed there is also no doubt that you will be remembered forever.

Blue-Footed Boobies

In action in Equador

Montgomery Gentry - Again

They are playing the Rosemont Theater in October. The wife wants to go. I don't so she talks to a friend and she'll go. Then her sister calls and wants to go. Why do I care? Cause I'm supposed to find 3 tickets in the first 5 rows!

Ok - no problem. The wife is a member of the fan club and there is a presale. Good shot there. However the presale is run by Music City Networks and they keep changing the time when seats go on sale. First 8:00 CDT on Friday. Great - no problem. No tickets available at 8:00. Then they post a message - 9:00 CDT on Friday. Crap! I've got a meeting to attend. So I go late to the meeting and still no tickets. Luckily for me it's a short (and frustrating) meeting. At 9:26 they post a message - tickets at 10:00am CDT. And it really happens.

Except the tickets start at the 8th row. Oh well. I resign to paying scalper, I mean ticket agent prices next week.

So today I'm painting the front door and I decide to check Ticketmaster at 11:00. Three tickets - way in the balcony. Two tickets - back of the main floor. Single ticket - front row just left of center! Bought it. Check again and get another front row just right of center. Will I get lucky and get a third?

Nope. Ended up with a 10th row just off center. But every one is happy and I don't have to pay scapler prices!

More money for knives!

On the eve of Katie Couric's highly anticipated debut on the CBS Evening News, the network was being coy about some of the big names who might appear with her this week.
